Tomorrow Rotherham United start their pre-season friendly games the first one being against Parkgate. The day after they travel to Austria for a weeks training camp (running up hills) and to play a couple of games.
That means football is on it’s way back.
But, the Millers are still to sign a goalkeeper.
We have Laurence Bilboe signed up but the lad hasn’t played any first team football, although he has been on the bench for games so has been around the senior squad. I understand that Lewis Price is still with the Millers, though not had that confirmed and we might have to go with him, who at least has played in the first team, although only twice last season.
In the past week we have been told that Marek Rodak is coming back which brought a cheer from all us Millers fans. We’ve been told he’s been at training but, again, there is no actual evidence of that although, I think most of us hope that’s true and Fulham have let us have him at least on loan for another season (to be fair there are a couple of ‘keepers ahead of him at Craven Cottage so it’s doubtful he’ll get much game time in the Premier League). Am I clutching at straws here?
If Rodak can’t or doesn’t want to come then what other options are available? Bristol City let go of Luke Steele at the end of last season but he’s not exactly in Warney’s age bracket. There’s a young lad who came through the Arsenal Youth ranks, Reice Charles-Cook who was with Swindon Town last season but not that many others knocking around at the moment.
Millers Boss Paul Warne has been saying he wants all his players in for when the squad go to Austria – which is on Sunday, so either he’s going to have a very busy weekend or he’s already got everyone he wants and knows that a ‘keeper is on his way.
If that’s the case then I’m having a bit of a panic for nothing – hopefully.
