Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart says there is ‘no drama’ regarding the players being put on furlough.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post Mr Stewart said, ‘If the players aren’t working you can put them on furlough. It is nothing derogatory. It is utilising any funds that we get and I am sure we do not stand alone on that. There is nothing dramatic about it. It is government-led and all we are doing is utilising what is there to help out.’

After seeing the news this week some fans were wondering if our finances weren’t as good as we have always been told they are but Mr Stewart refuted this saying that the club is run within it’s means saying, ‘we don’t crowd up debt.’

But the Chairman did say that getting relegated probably means a two to three million pound loss to the club. Added that to having to cope with no fans coming through the turnstiles for over a year is it any surprise that Mr Stewart takes any help handed out?

Seems all rather iffy to me ! I think 🤔 Mr Stewart isn’t been totally upfront with regards furlough and the clubs financial situation , we have taken a big hit after yet again another woeful attempt at championship stability , no season ticket revenue coming in , the millers long suffering fans don’t want to expect anything much come the new season ,top players will leave and freebies will probably be the best we can except , after blowing another chance in the second tier the millers deserve all they get .

It is increasingly difficult to square objectivity and rationality with being a football fan. Fans on two sites I read universally panned the Owls for attempting furlough of players. Then the Mail reported we were doing it. The immediate response from many Millers was that the report was a fabrication. Then it was claimed “everyone was doing it” but so far as I can discover only the Owls and us have formally approached players. Then a number of posters said it was anyway “a non-story” whatever that means. A non-story when it made national and regional media and dozens of football websites? I don’t like the way RUFC is being run. The covid outbreaks were never explained and now the chairman attempts to dismiss actions which in my view would have never been disclosed had the Mail not forced the club’s hand.
