Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart says that the club is still progressing under Manager Paul Warne.

Speaking to the Official Site Mr Stewart says that, of course, he is disappointed that the Millers got relegated but reflects that if we’d had a bit more luck, a few more decisions going our way and if a certain player who scored Bolton’s goal in our draw with them hadn’t been playing (which Mr Stewart doesn’t think he should have been and the tells us that the club did ask the question of the EFL) things might have gone a little differently.

The Chairman says we have to put that behind us now – which, I think, will be easier for some than others. This last couple of weeks I’ve been speaking to a few fans from other Championship clubs and inevitably one of the things that always came up (usually as a second to what lovely weather we’re having) was the standard of refereeing.

Us Millers fans have always had a feeling that referees have ‘had it in’ for the Millers but it seems there’s not only us who have been on the end of some shocking decisions. That is something I would like our club to have had a word with the EFL about – the standard, in my mind, has been poor to awful this last season.

And let’s not forget the linesmen (sorry official helpers? Referee helpers? Them with flags?) whatever they are called now and their part in poor decisions.

Saying that, I do think it’s time the offside rule was made clear and simple – if you’re offside you are offside whether you are going for the ball or standing in an offside position which makes a defender have to cover you in case you might go for the ball and not be flagged offside – or is that just me?

Mr Stewart says we have been entertained this season and I agree with him.

The Chairman says that he is looking forward to next season and working with ‘a manager, staff and group of players who I know will leave no stone unturned in their quest for success.’ Which makes me think he’s put the ‘promised land dream on hold for a couple of years (at least)!
