Rotherham United made it two wins out of two in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy game last night with a three-one home win against a Newcastle United U21 side.
But what about those stats?
Possession wise the young Magpies had fifty-one per cent to the Millers forty-two while Rotherham had seventeen shots on goal of which seven were on target and three blocked. Newcastle had three on target from five shots. Goalkeeper saves were two for us and four for the Magpies.
Touches in the box came out at thirty for the hosts which was twenty more than our visitors while passing accuracy throughout the game was pretty equal with eighty-two per cent to our opponents and eighty-one per cent for us.
We won ninety-four per cent of our tackles to Newcastle’s sixty-two per cent and in the aerial challenges the Magpies were one per cent better with fifty-one per cent. There were twenty-six fouls in the game the Millers committing eighteen of them and of the fifteen corners Rotherham won twelve.
Card happy Mr Richardo showed seven yellow last night – were all of them necessary? – six of them going the Millers way.
It was a good work out – the young Magpies looked a good side to me and our young players didn’t disgrace themselves. We got forward well, some of our passing was good, we fought to get the ball back and we played down the wing (yes, we have wingers!) And, another win. Does that mean we’ve ‘turned a corner’? Well, we will have to wait and see what happens on Saturday.
