Battling Millers Get Draw

Amongst all the weather seasons in one day at Millmoor the Millers came back from a goal down to get a draw this afternoon against Bradford City, with a goal which has been credited to Chris O’Grady, although, it looked a lot like an own goal from the Bantams Mark Bower from where I sat.

Both teams started brightly against the swirling wind and Andy Warrington saved early on from a Barry Conlon header. But the Millers came straight back with a Mark Hudson shot from twenty yards out that was saved by Scott Loach and Eddie Johnson blocked a shot from Jamie Yates before Pablo Mills headed just over the bar. Yates should have opened the scoring for the home side but instead he hit his shot into the side netting. Warrington again saved from Omar Daley before Chris O’Grady had the ball in the back of the next just after the half hour mark but it was ruled off side. And before half-time, Eddie Johnson and Paul Heckingbottom had shots at goal for the Bantams.

The visitors came out the more lively and within three minutes of the re-start had gone into the lead. Joe Colbeck got the ball from Tom Penford, found himself in space and his shot went across the goal and into the back of the net via the upright. Kyle Nix should have made it two when he slid in to meet a ball from Daley but only managed to deflect the ball into the relieved hands of Warrington. But the Millers equalised in the sixty-third minute when O’Grady sneaked in from the right to meet a Marc Joseph free kick and with Loach hesitating put the ball into the back of the net, with a little help from Bower. Eight minutes later, Omar Daley was given a red card after he lunged at Graham Coughlan way after the ball had gone. As the Tivoli tried to urge them on the Millers had more chances but couldn’t get through the solid Bantams defence.

We really needed all three points today but I don’t think the team let us down at all. I thought Peter Holmes played well, particularly in the first half, and Pablo Mills and Jamie Yates too. There are rumours going round saying that was our last game at Millmoor and we could play our remaining home games of the season elsewhere – I hope not.
