Are We Expecting Goals Tomorrow?

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told Radio Sheffield that although he wished his side would score more, because it would really make his job easier, but is pleased the team are creating loads of chances.

‘People are trying their best,’ the Millers Boss said, ‘and Freddie (Ladapo) is probably the best finisher we’ve had here since Adam Le Fondre. But, obviously, you have to convert chances. Some teams have just one or two chances in a game and happen to take one and win the game but, unfortunately for us, that hasn’t been the case recently plus we’ve conceded goals which is disappointing too, though most of them have been worldies.’

Freddie Ladapo is the Millers top scorer with seventeen goals, and although we have, in the past, called him the ‘tap in king’ (and there is nothing at all wrong with that), the one he scored against MK Dons last week was something quite different and, as the Gaffer says, one that nobody else in the club would probably have scored.

But, in the one-all home draw with the Dons last Saturday the Millers had plenty of chances in fact more than enough to have gone in at half-time four goals clear. I think the visitors had one chance in the first half and scored. And I came away feeling like we’d lost instead of getting a point.

We travel to Rochdale tomorrow who have let in nine goals in their last five games keeping just one clean sheet. The Millers are eighteen places above them and have conceded seven goals in our last six games again keeping one clean sheet.

Does that mean we will get an easy win tomorrow? Well, I don’t think so. But I don’t expect it to be goalless either. Rochdale need the win to keep their heads above those bottom three places and although I doubt anyone can overtake the Millers after tomorrow we would also probably like those three points to keep us in touch with Coventry.

I am expecting goals and I think it will be an exciting game. (Famous last words!)

Last line kiss of death, Caz! 0:0 written all over it. Seriously though we have to win and at this stage of the season we have to convert a much higher percentage of chances into goals than of late. I’m going for a 2:0 Millers win but can we really keep a clean sheet?

I got my goals, Kevin and no we can’t keep a clean sheet. Have to draw a line under this one and go again next weekend. But be better, much better.

Caz, I won’t add to my scathing comments on your other thread save to say I’m still in shock. Btw, does Herringthorpe refer to your location? I only ask as I was born and brought up just off Valley Road.

It does Kevin. Moved here in 1978, born and brought up in Kimberworth, although I often visited Herringthorpe as I had cousins who lived here.
