Isn’t it strange how we all go to the same football game yet we all see things differently.

Or is it that some of us have those rose-tinted specs on?

Rotherham United v Reading on Saturday at the New York Stadium. I’ve not seen Millers fans say anything other than we were dire in the first forty-five minutes of that game – we could well have been going in three down at half-time if not for some good work from our ‘keeper and some poor decisions from Reading.

Now, as I sat their freezing my proverbial off, the teams came out for the second half. Rotherham were better and had a lot of shots towards goal, all of which count for very little until that one sort of sneaked in on ninety minutes.

‘What a come back,’ I heard someone say as we left the stadium, ‘we deserved that,’ another said. Me, I couldn’t forget that first half and I came out of the stadium thinking, ‘if I was a Reading fan I’d be going home very disappointed.’

Of course I was happy we’d not lost. And, I have to admit, Reading were a lot better than a lot of us were given to believe.

And, yes, we were much better with the two subs coming on at half-time playing their part in that. But were we great? Were we brilliant? Were we as good as we were last weekend? No, I don’t think so. Maybe I’m being a little harsh?

Did we battle to get a point – you bet your life we did. Although, to be honest, I didn’t expect anything less.

As I said I think our two subs changed the pace of the game but I’ve just seen a report from football.london which says that they thought Reading’s substitutes were ‘strange’. When I saw that midfielder Dave Edwards was on their bench I thought they might have done better fetching him on too. Hey, but, as they say, that’s not my problem.

I hope, for the Millers, this is our pre-Christmas first half jitters out of the way – I fully believe we’ll come out next Saturday and batter West Brom.

Then again, I also believe in fairies and Father Christmas.
