A Week Of Expectation Leaves Millers Fans A Little Frustrated

We are now seven weeks since the last time Rotherham United had a game – their last in the Championship with them starting next season in League One.

It’s been quite a busy week this week but probably not busy in the way Millers fans were wanting. And not, according to First Team/Development Coach Matty Hamshaw, what the club had been expecting.

By now Hammy, who has just graduated the FA Level 5 (UEFA Pro) in Coaching Football (Ed Note – Well Done, Hammy!), told the Rotherham Advertiser that the transfer window has been quiet, ‘quieter than we wanted’. The back page of this weeks newspaper also tells us that the Millers have bids in for four players, though one might be ‘dead in the water’.

Although not confirmed by the club we have heard that a bid for Dru Yearwood has been turned down by Southend United.

Striker Jerry Yates has gone out on a season long loan to League Two side Swindon Town to, one supposes, get games under his belt – though how big that flipppin’ belt must be is anyone’s guess.

Jon Taylor and David Ball are both wanted men with Millers winger Taylor semingly turning down a move to Sunderland.

With the not so surprising news that Will Vaulks is leaving to go join Cardiff City, probably next week sometime, we, on Vital Rotherham asked how much the midfielder was worth to Rotherham United. Most fans not impressed with the original ‘small fee’ we are getting for him with our Tanzanian fan Paul agreeing saying ‘selling him for £2m is a joke’ while Nick said ‘again, another Rotherham starlet sold for pocket money’.

This weeks excitement has actually been with next season’s fixtures being published, which, to be honest was a bit of a damp squib with the Millers first game being a long trip to take on AFC Wimbledon and then, on the same day we got drawn away in the Carabao Cup, which was drawn in a London supermarket (yes, I’m shaking my head too), at Shrewsbury Town.

The players, those that are still with us, return for pre-season training next week to get ready for the arranged friendly games – which start next Saturday (6th July) at Parkgate. The Millers then have two games in Germany one on Sunday, 14th July against 1. FC Magdeburg at Elm-Stadion with the other being a ‘behind closed doors’ game. Back in England the team play Farsley Celtic away on 16th July and the day after away at Bradford Park Avenue before 20th July sees them at the Proact Stadium for a game with Chesterfield. There will be two friendly home games against West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City before the season starts.

Will next week be a busy one for Paul Warne and the back room staff? Will some of our bids be accepted? Will new faces join the rest on Thursday?

You just never know.

Iam use to being disappointed by the way we operate in the transfer market

  • Al Hodgson says:

Could the next keeper in be Daniel Iverson of Leicester City? Was at Oldham on loan last season and wants to step up in the English leagues. Is playing for Denmark’s Under 21’s today, so a similar standard to Rodak when we got him on loan and didn’t do too bad for us, did he?

Bit older, bit more experienced I suppose but is he any better than Lewis Price do we think?
