A Quick Run Down Of Saturday’s Stats

Rotherham United lost to a ‘good team’ says Millers Manager Paul Warne and, let’s be honest, he isn’t wrong is he.

But lets have a quick look at what the stats have to tell us.

They say that the hosts had the majority of the possession – fifty-five per cent to Oxford’s forty-five per cent. I’m a bit surprised at that to be honest, I thought the visitors had more of the game.

The Millers duel success rate and aerial duels are also better while the U’s had one more corner with nine to our eight.

Our passing accuracy ended up at sixty-four per cent (and, I have to admit, I’m surprised at that too!) while Oxford’s was sixty per cent with it being the same for percentage in the opposition box with Rotherham coming out on top with fifty-four per cent accuracy to the U’s fifty-one per cent, though our crossing accuracy was just ten per cent.

Of our eight shots at goal just two were on target with the visitors having eleven shots at goal with seven of those being on target – and again we have our ‘keeper to thank for the score not being more.

According to the stats the Millers had seven fouls against with Oxford having double that with fourteen – (and that’s only those the referee actually saw). (I’d really like to understand how a referee can spend so much time looking away from the action, going around chatting to players instead of doing his job of refereeing?)

My main thought on yesterday is perhaps that too many of our players didn’t perform and, unfortunately, a couple of them were the ones we have come to rely on.  But now we have to forget this game and concentrate on what I think is going to be a very difficult game at Portman Road in midweek.
