Rotherham United’s last league game of the season was six weeks ago today so let’s have a re-cap on what’s been happening in the past seven days.

At this stage of pre-season everyone’s attention is on the transfer activity. This week there has been no comings at the New York Stadium but midfielder/winger Joe Newell has left moving over the border to Hibernian where he signed a two year deal.

It has been reported that Rotherham have had a bid turned down for Ross County midfielder Jamie Lindsay, although there has been no confirmation from the club about that.

Young defender Jake Cooper, who joined the Academy in 2015, signed his first professional contract with the club this week.

It seems obvious that a goalkeeper is high on the list of players wanted by the Millers with nobody surprised when we found out that Goalkeeping Coach Mike Pollitt would be involved in that.

Millers’ Boss Paul Warne has been linked with the upcoming vacant job at Hull City with most Vital Posters thinking that it would be a ‘bad move’ for Warney, one even saying if he went he’d probably be out of a job by Christmas.

News coming yesterday from Wales Online says that Cardiff City Manager, and former Miller, Neil Warnock, is still thinking of having Will Vaulks there next season while Millers striker Jerry Yates is interesting both Carlisle United, where he spent part of the season on loan last year, and also Swindon Town.

Although we’ve been told that the club are in talks with players I think a few fans are a bit disappointed that we’ve not seen someone through the door this week but, I think we have to realise, that players – and agents – have been on holiday and are only just coming back to ‘work’. I would imagine, though wouldn’t know for sure, that things will start moving again in the next ten days or so. Whether that be players out and the Millers looking for replacements are players in either on permanent deals or loan deals we shall have to wait and see.

Seems like the same old tired rhetoric as before from Warne & Co all talk about potential signing but nothing happening, and obviously with Warne and is only band of brothers mentallity it’s a tough cookie for would be signing with Warne and is meet & greet philosophy of are they of good arsehole creeping stock who don’t rock the boat with captain Warne and first mate barker at the helm.

I am expecting the club to fetch in another three or more players, you know, Stuart – I really don’t want to see that we can’t fill our bench again

use to the disappointment by now

Same old bull coming from The club . Chairman saying we have bids in but some thing always goes wrong . Supporters getting tired of the same lines he spouts , every pre season the same , if only to sell season tickets . At the end of the day he’s a sales man . But don’t expect him to actually buy any players . All signings will be Free transfers or loans , or has beens who nobody else wants . The whole transfer saga is a Con .

    • Caz Neale (Herringthorpe) says:

You could well be right Shaun saying they will all be free transfers – I’d expect most of them to be free myself, especially if we are getting in youngsters

The same said as previously? Yes, may be that’s because it’s true!
We are not the most successful club or the most affluent or situated in the nicest area to live!
Understandably (though frustrating to all those connected to our team!!) players are not going to be in a hurry to commit to being a Miller until they are sure they are not going to get a better offer elsewhere.

I’ll be honest, I’m surprised the likes of Jon Taylor have actually said ‘goodbye’ before they’ve got another club to go too. Of course they want to do the best they can and be in a league as high as they can but I do think some of these players have to remember they were in the squad that took the Millers down. I also don’t like to see our name in headlines such as ‘club has bid rejected’.

  • catman says:

caz do you think they wiil spend the one and half million they will get from will vaulks sale on players

    • Caz Neale (Herringthorpe) says:

I’m rather hoping we get a lot more for Will Vaulks than that catman. Will we spend it on players? Hmmm, I’d like to say ‘yes’ but I’m also not holding my breath, though, you’d expect wages to be a bit less in the League One so perhaps it might be a ‘yes’ after all?
