Rotherham United’s home to defeat to second placed Watford this evening probably wasn’t much of a surprise given the fact that around half of the Millers squad have been suffering with Covid-19 and the training ground having been shut for the same reason until yesterday. They were also without Manager Paul Warne and First Team Coach Matt Hamshaw who are now self-isolating while having two young players on the bench without any first team football between them.
But the stats won’t tell us all that. They tell us that Watford had sixty per cent of possession while just edging the duels success rate the aerial duels came out at fifty/fifty. Our visitors had eight corners, three more than the Millers with the passing accuracy in our opponents box saw Rotherham’s worked out at sixty-one per cent to the visitors sixty per cent.
Rotherham had eleven shots at goal of which four were on target and six of those inside the box while Watford’s ten on target came from sixteen shots. We conceded twelve fouls, the Hornets two more and referee Jeremy Simpson kept his cards in his pocket all night.
We might not have been at our best but Richard Wood, for one, gave his all coming off the pitch looking like he’d just run three marathons and getting back in the game from three down at half-time to three-one might, on another occasion, brought better benefits.
Chins up Millers fans – this game was never going to be easy and we’ve another toughie coming up on Saturday when we travel to take on Bristol City followed by games coming that thick and fast we’ll be lucky to have time to get the kits washed and dried.
