A Quick Look At The Stats – Millers v Stanley

Rotherham United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the first time of asking this evening losing two-one to Accrington Stanley at the New York Stadium.

Not new for Millers fans, we don’t often fair well in Cup competitions and, to be honest, Stanley were the better team over the ninety minutes. So I was a bit surprised to see that the possession stats were fifty-eight per cent in our favour.

Our visitors had the better percentage in the duels stakes winning sixty-three per cent of the aerial duels while they had eight corners to the Millers three. Our passing accuracy in our opponents half was fifty-six per cent with crossing accuracy coming out at just twenty-six per cent, though that was more than the visitors.

Both sides had thirteen shots at goal and both had three shots on target although we tried ten shots from outside the area to Accrington’s five. Fouls conceded worked out at sixteen each while referee Will Finnie showed four yellow cards this evening – one Rotherham and three to Accrington.

I know there are those of us who think ‘well it was only a cup game’ but winning games gives confidence and that’s something we really need after coming down last season.
