A Quick Look At The Stats – Millers v Gas

Rotherham United lost their second away game of the season yesterday when they visited the Memorial Stadium to take on a Bristol Rovers side who haven’t lost at home in the league, yet, this season.

The Millers had most of the possession yesterday – fifty-four per cent to Rovers forty-six and had a better success rates in duels and aerial duels and had eight corners to the hosts two.

But saying all that the Millers had seven shots at goal of which three were on target to the Gas’s six shots on target from twelve shots at goal – although, of course, we have to remember they were the hosts and so, really, that should be – shouldn’t it?

I also see that Rotherham had just two shots from outside the box yesterday and five inside the box – do we tend to pass the ball instead of looking up and having a go? Are we too cautious? Can you actually be too cautious?

Rovers’ passing accuracy was better while it was pretty even on passing accuracy in the opponents half.

One of our good things this season, in my eyes, has been our accuracy from set-pieces and I thought that was sadly lacking yesterday. Of our eight corners I don’t think we made the Rovers’ ‘keeper have to make many saves from them.

But you can look at stats as much as you like when, what we all know that counts are balls in the net – which we didn’t do yesterday. After being on top for the first half we didn’t follow that up by a determined second half display. I find that frustrating.
