Rotherham United scored twice before half-time to get all three points against South Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers at the New York Stadium yesterday – but what do those stats say.
The first thing they tell us is that Rovers had sixty-four per cent of the possession – though I think quite a lot of that in the first half was with their goalkeeper who seemed to want to take an age to kick the ball for a goal kick (even after we went one-up). Rotherham won fifty-nine per cent of the aerial duels in our opponents half while Doncaster had four corners to our two.
Our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at sixty-three per cent and our crossing accuracy was twenty-seven per cent. Rotherham had fifteen shots at goal, seven of those inside the box, and six were on target while the visitors had one shot on target from nine goes.
Rotherham’s tackle success rate was seventy-five per cent with both sides conceded eight fouls (wasn’t it around the hour mark before we were awarded a free-kick?) with the Millers having one red and one yellow card and Rovers saw three yellows.
We were the better team, again today, and this time we made it count plus we kept a clean sheet. Not having seen the red card incident back I can’t judge but it came at a time when I thought Miller was getting more into the game. I thought his yellow card in the opening five minutes for a shirt pull on an opponent in our half of the pitch was a bit unnecessary to be honest, especially when shirt pulls on other players went unpunished, but hey, that’s football.
