A Game To Forget

Rotherham United dropped down to twenty-first after the Boxing Day loss away at Bolton Wanderers which wasn’t the prettiest game of football you will ever witness.

It was a game that realistically both teams needed to win yet neither team really looked like doing until the sixty-fifth minute when the hosts made it two-one.

Looking at the stats the Millers had more possession than Bolton – and I don’t think I’ve said that away from home before this season – and we were better in the air as well as having more corners – four to two. I actually thought our corners weren’t too bad yesterday and with just a bit more heading practice we might have scored with one or even two.

Most of our game at Bolton was long ball – and there are some games when you have to play that. But the pitch looked OK from where I was sat and we do know we can play ‘nice’ football on good pitches. Saying that the tons of water sprayed on before the start made it a bit slippy underfoot.

I feel one of our problems, besides not being able to get the ball into the back of the net, is our passing quality isn’t the best. I think we managed three consecutive passes at most yesterday and, to be fair, that isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned it this season.

Both teams, according to the stats, had twelve shots at goal, two of which for the Millers were on target.

A game to put behind us, forget about and now it’s onto Bristol on Saturday to take on the City side at Ashton Gate.
